Rob Ryerson is a native of Maryland and was one of the best players ever to come out of Howard County, graduating from Oakland Mills HS. Winning a state championship his senior year and earning player of the year honors along the way, Rob began his passion for the game at an early age learning about player development from some of the top coaches in Maryland. After 13 seasons as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Mount St. Mary’s University, Rob continues to develop players at the youth level with his involvement as a Director of Coaching at Potomac Soccer association along with a coaching instructor with MSYSA and player scout for US Soccer.

Ryerson's successful career continued while playing at collegiately at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was a two time All-America selection at Nevada-Las Vegas in 1984 and 1985. He still holds the UNLV career scoring record with 67 goals and 25 assists, and was named to the school's Hall of Fame in 1998 along with having his jersey #10 retired following his senior year.

Ryerson played professionally outdoors for the Maryland Bays from 1988-91 and the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1992. He was a key member of the National Championship team winning the American Professional Soccer League title in 1990. Professionally indoors, he played for the Baltimore Blast and Washington Warthogs as well as squads in San Diego and Fort Wayne, Ind., prior to becoming an assistant coach for the Warthogs in 1996.

Over five years of play with the U.S. National Team, his most memorable highlight was scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 friendly contest against Costa Rica in San Antonio, Texas, (6-14-88). Ryerson participated in the Heroes Cup in July 2003, a game that featured former national team players from the United States playing against a squad of former national team players from Mexico.

Ryerson began his coaching career as an assistant at UMBC in 1991 and then returned to UNLV for two years as an assistant in 1993 and 1994. He then came back to his native Maryland to spend 1995 and 1996 as Head Coach at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, before starting his Professional Indoor coaching career as a volunteer Assistant Coach with the Washington Warthogs of the Continental Indoor Soccer League in 1996. He then spent 1997 and 1998 as Head Coach of the Baton Rouge Bombers of the Eastern Indoor Professional Soccer League, where he earned 1997 EISL Coach of the Year honors.

Ryerson has obtained the highest level of coaching licenses offered here in the United States. He obtained his USSF National “A” License in 1997, his USSF National “Youth” License in 2000 and his NSCAA National “Premier” License in 2001. His involvement with youth soccer is extensive as he hosts one of the top residential soccer camps in the region. He also is an instructor for the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association, conducting coaching courses to youth soccer coaches within the State of Maryland.

Rob was recently inducted into the “Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame” in 2006.
